Tournament cup - inv. 535
This tournament cup, a very rare object, was made by the cives orafi (city goldsmiths) of Avignon. The octagonal base is totally covered by enamels with chivalry themes, very popular in the 14thcentury, as the scene with a tournament or the meeting of Tristan and Isolde spied by King Mark, whose face is reflected in a fountain water. Enamels with running dogs and rabbits decorate the lid. At the bottom of the rock crystal cup, there is a medallion with a monster half woman and half animal.
