Friends of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum Association
Thanks to the efforts of a group of Milanese citizens, the Friends of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum Association originated in 1960 with the aim of supporting the Museum in artistic as well as institutional spheres.
Over the years, the Association has pursued various initiatives designed to sustain the Museum’s artistic patrimony, promote cultural programs and make the Museum – its prestige and the high quality of its collections – better known both in Italy and abroad.
Today the Association counts a large number of members, supporting members, benefactors and patrons. Moreover, participating quite actively in the life of the Poldi Pezzoli, it flanks the Museum as an effective partner, lending concrete support to the new cultural endeavors and sharing in the strategies of the dynamic Artistic Direction.
One important activity of the Association consists in raising funds for many of the Museum’s projects. In particular, in 2000 it made a significant contribution to the sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro’s design of the Armoury, which holds one of Europe’s richest collections of weapons and armours; in 2001, it donated funds for the purchase of audio-guides; in 2009, it raised € 30,000 for the new Museum labels now also in English.
Additionally, the Association encourages donations for enriching the Museum’s collections, as in the case of Giambattista Gigola’s “Portrait of the Daughters of Gian Giacomo Trivulzio” and of Giovanni Battista Moroni’s "Black Knight."
